1999 Grand Banks 42 Classic

location icon Norwalk, Connecticut
Year 1999
Length 42 ft
Price
$259,000

SUMMER WIND is being sold by her original owners after being lovingly maintained and enjoyed for 20 years.  This 1999 Grand Banks 42 CL has the preferred layout and engine package....two staterooms, each with en-suite heads/showers, and the preferred queen island berth and split head in the Master.  The L shaped galley offers far more storage than the standard straight galley.  SUMMER WIND has the new styling introduced in Grand Banks 42s in 1999:  teak valances with indirect lighting, wipe out corners, rounded corners on the teak yacht table and the L settee with a corner table.  SUMMER WIND is equipped with the desired twin Cat 3208TAs, 375HP.  Recent upgrades include a new suite of electronics and dark blue Sunbrella bimini, weather cloths, and covers.  She is a wonderful example of this most popular of Grand Banks models.

Accommodations

From the wide side decks there are port and starboard doors into the main salon.  Forward to starboard is the helm station and optional bench seat, below which is cabinet storage with shelves on rollers to get those things forgotten in the back, and to port is the optional L-shaped galley offering considerably more refrigeration than standard.  Aft of the port door, which is aft of the galley, is a straight settee (with an insert off site and never used that will convert it to a berth) and an entertainment center with a portable TV, stereo, and overhead speaks.  To starboard, and aft of the helm bench seat and side door, is a dry bar in a custom teak cabinet, while aft of the cabinet is the salon L shaped settee with a teak corner table and lamp, and a teak drop leaf dining table with bottle storage below.

A very popular option was the addition of gas-assist struts on the bottoms of seat cushions, and Summer Wind has them on all settee cushion bottoms, adding tremendously to easy-to-access stowage. The salon windows have beige linen curtains and mini-blinds for privacy, and optional screens for natural ventilation.  The furniture and bulkheads are all teak, and there is a parquet sole throughout.  Like all cabins, the main cabin has reverse-cycle air conditioning.  Brass reading lights are throughout the boat.  There are a brass clock and barometer on the aft bulkhead.

In 1999 Grand Banks added, among other changes, teak valances, curved settees with corner tables, and cabinet-top wipe outs to all their models, enhancing the elegance with a slightly more contemporary look.

Guest Cabin

Forward and down two steps from the galley is a very large v-berth and en-suite head with hand held shower, Vacuflush head, and teak grate sole.  The v-berth has 6 deep drawers below and shelf storage along the teak side strakes.  There is a large overhead hatch and two screened opening ports.  The commodious hanging locker is to port with the head to starboard.

Master Stateroom

Double teak doors at the aft end of the main salon lead to the master stateroom, which has a much desired island queen berth with end tables and storage on each side.  To port, outboard of the end table, is a corner desk/vanity with a drawer and stool below.  Between the two is a companionway to the aft deck.  Storage is abundant:  two hanging lockers forward, a cabinet with 6 drawers to port, and generous storage below the berth.  Brass reading lamps flank the headboard of the berth.  There are many opening ports with screens making the master stateroom bright and well ventilated.

Unlike older Grand Banks, the island queen layout features a split head, with the Vacuflush toilet, sink and vanity to port and the shower to starboard.
