| Job Description | Petzold’s Marine Center is seeking experienced Marine Technicians to join our service teams in Portland and Clinton, CT. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in quality work, understands marine systems, and wants to be part of a respected, family-owned business with deep roots in the boating community. Our Marine Technicians help keep customers safe, confident, and ready for the season by diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing boats of all sizes. Why The Marine Technician Role MattersAt Petzold’s, service is more than repairs — it is trust. Our customers depend on us to keep their boats running properly so they can spend more time on the water with family and friends. As a Marine Technician, you play a direct role in that experience. From seasonal maintenance to diagnostics and repairs, your work helps deliver the level of service Petzold’s has been known for since 1945. Key ResponsibilitiesDiagnostics & Repairs: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair marine engines, systems, and related components. Seasonal Maintenance: Perform spring commissioning, winterization, oil changes, tune-ups, and routine maintenance. Engine & Systems Work: Service marine engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, steering systems, and other onboard components. Quality Control: Ensure repairs are completed correctly, efficiently, and to Petzold’s standards. Team Collaboration: Work closely with service writers, parts staff, and fellow technicians to keep jobs moving and customers informed. Customer-Focused Workmanship: Help provide boaters with reliable, high-quality service they can trust. What We’re Looking ForMarine Experience: Prior marine technician or marine mechanic experience is strongly preferred. Technical Knowledge: Comfortable diagnosing and repairing marine engines and related systems. Problem Solver: Able to troubleshoot efficiently and work through complex mechanical issues. This role is an important connection between our customers, technicians, and service department. The Service Writer helps ensure each customer is heard, each repair order is clear, and each job moves through the service process as smoothly as possible. Why The Service Writer Role MattersThe Service Writer is often one of the first points of contact for customers needing service. This role sets the tone for the customer experience by listening carefully, communicating clearly, and helping the service team stay organized. At Petzold’s, great service starts with great communication. The Service Writer helps make sure customers feel taken care of and our technicians have the information they need to get the job done right. Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Communication: Greet and assist service customers in person, over the phone, and by email. Repair Orders: Create, update, and manage repair orders with clear notes and accurate information. Scheduling Support: Help coordinate service appointments, drop-offs, updates, and pickups. Technician Coordination: Communicate customer concerns and job details to technicians and service managers. Status Updates: Keep customers informed throughout the service process. Administrative Support: Assist with billing, documentation, service records, and general department organization. What We’re Looking ForCustomer Service Experience: Previous service writing, marine, automotive, or customer-facing experience is preferred. Strong Communication Skills: Able to clearly explain service needs, timelines, and updates to customers. Highly Organized: Comfortable managing multiple jobs, conversations, and deadlines at once. This role helps support both our customers and our technicians by making sure the right parts are available at the right time.The Marine Parts Associate plays an important role in keeping service jobs moving, helping customers find what they need, and maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient parts operation. Why The Marine Parts Associate Role MattersAt Petzold’s, we’ve been a family-run staple of the boating community since 1945. Our parts team does more than sell parts — they provide the support and technical solutions that help keep customers on the water. By managing inventory, assisting customers, and supporting our internal mechanics, the Marine Parts Associate helps our service department operate at a high level. Key ResponsibilitiesParts Support: Assist customers with marine parts inquiries and help pull necessary components for on-staff mechanics. Inventory Management: Support day-to-day parts department operations, including purchasing, receiving, stocking, and billing inventory correctly. Supplier Relations: Work with manufacturers and suppliers to order parts, track shipments, and handle returns. Store Operations: Operate the cash register, answer parts calls, and help maintain an organized Ship’s Store. Team Collaboration: Work closely with the service and sales teams to provide a smooth experience for customers and coworkers. What We’re Looking ForMarine Parts or Mechanical Knowledge: Marine parts, marine mechanic, automotive parts, or mechanical experience is strongly preferred. Multi-Tasking Ability: Comfortable handling a ringing phone, a customer at the counter, and a technician’s request at the same time. Computer Skills: Able to use computers and learn inventory management software. Organized & Detail-Oriented: Able to keep parts, paperwork, and inventory accurate.
